I have been bursting with happiness for the past three weeks! My middle daughter is pregnant with her first child, my first grandbaby! We are so excited! She had her first appointment and ultrasound last week and everything looks good! So now I am allowed to shout it from the rooftop!
The only baby things I have ever made were a pair of socks, a hat and blanket.
These were made last year.
Of course, after I was told the good news, I began searching for baby items to make! Here is my first crocheted baby sweater.
I followed a YouTube video and used left over yarns. (Red heart and Sweet Roll) It was meant to be a practice run, but turned out very nice and was so simple to make.
I then bought Top This by DMC yarn. I normally like to loom knit hats, but I got out of my comfort zone and tried knitting on circular needles. I am now obessed with them!
I have made three other baby hats, but decided to wait on making other projects until we learn if the baby is a girl or boy. (Ten more weeks)
My Etsy shop is back open! I decided to keep it simple this time and not go overboard like I usually do! I plan to sell soaps only this time. I may sell my crocheted and knitted items, I haven’t decided yet. I still make bath bombs, but by family and friend requests only.
My housework has been put on hold, again! That is my plan for the day! This past week, I have been playing with ChapStick! Making my own! Looking for that perfect chocolate peppermint mix!
I made a popcorn stitch hat for winter and made soap!
I plan to call it Winter Garden. It will be available in my Etsy shop November 1st. I also made Sugar cookie soap. Sorry, no pictures, (my dog Patch is in my lap!), but I love how dark the fragrance turned the soap. Smells great and it too will be available November 1st.
I have also been working on a baby sweater. It is finished, but needs to be put together! (Lots of unfinished projects for me to do.)
My next plan of action is to buy a photo box for professional pictures. Any photo tips would be greatly appreciated!
No, I am not expecting, nor is any of my three daughters, but I am preparing!
The weekend was busy as always! Those days are reserved for me to sit on the sofa, knit or crochet, make soap and watch YouTube videos on how to make handmade items! Yes, I love my crafty life!
The picture above is the newborn hat and blanket I made! I bought the yarn, on clearance, at AC Moore. I still have a large skein left and plan on making a baby sweater with it.
Of course I made soap! I used a pvc pipe to get a round shape and I let the fragrance do its work to discolor the soap to brown. The fragrance is Gingersnap.
This is Love Spell! Such a beautiful scent! I can’t wait to use it! It will be available in my Etsy shop in six weeks.
I loved the scent so much I made eyeball bath bombs with it! I will have these in my shop by tonight!
I have been putting up bookshelves in my craft room to have more hoarding space, I mean more space. It’s a nice sized room, but when you are a crafter, you need a warehouse!
Have a beautiful Tuesday! Melissa
While my daughter has this week off from work, we have been doing our favorite things, crafts! This is what I have been working on this week!
Above is a hanging wash cloth. I have given it a test run and like it as much as the waffle stitch cloth. Again, because of the cotton in it, it will shrink some if thrown in the dryer. I like to hang mine up or lay flat to dry.
This is a soap bag. You put your scraps of soap in it, pull the cord. It is a great gift for people who do not like to waste anything! (Myself included! )
This is yesterdays soap. Pumpkin and brown sugar! I can’t wait to cut it!
And last but not least, another waffle stitch wash cloth on my loom!
Today, I will be making more soap bags and Gingersnap soap.
If you like boring pics of soaps and crafts, I am on Instagram and Snapchat. Melissajplum!
Happy Thursday! Melissa
I love to loom knit! It is relaxing, gentle on my hands and wrists and is fun to do!! The problem is, with all crafts and hobbies, there are too many projects and not enough time! Haha!
There is a deep thrill about taking yarns, fabrics and other items and turning them into something beautiful and useful.
Above are photos of what I made yesterday. It was my first loom knit wash cloth. (I will be adding them to my Etsy shop next month.) I really had fun making this! So much fun that I decided to make some for Holiday gifts this year. (These will be perfect in my gift baskets! )
